All Good Things

Eleven months ago today I was on stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the premiere of Children’s BBC’s Ocean Adventure at the 2022 Proms.  

It was the start of a very important period for me, marking as it did, my return to full-time conducting after six years at the helm of the Academy for the Performing Arts in Trinidad where I grew up. There’s an article here on the site about returning to the podium after such a lengthy professional excursion, but suffice it to say here that this first year back far exceeded my every hope and expectation, delivering one wonderful experience after another on both sides of the Atlantic. 

As the 2022-23 concert season approaches its summer finale, I’m excited to reconnect with my friends at the BBC to take Ocean Adventure to four of the concluding stops of its National Tour with the Ulster Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic.  And then, following an intense but hopefully sunny, study break, next season is shaping up to be another exciting one, with two U.S. operatic debuts, two long-anticipated World Premieres, a major European Premiere, a historic Centennial Event and some seriously eclectic repertoire!  I also plan to finally write, record and release Season 2 of my podcast, 8 Minute Idea, so fingers crossed that declaring it here will actually help me convert intention into reality…

More on that in the next post, but for the moment, I just want to thank all the artists and artistic teams I’ve collaborated with over the last year for the countless intense and inspiring experiences we’ve shared. I‘ve enjoyed it SO much and look forward to seeing you all again in the near future!
