Just when I thought the 2022-23 season was over, there turned out to be, as the late great Steve Jobs liked to say, “One More Thing”. I was invited to perform at the beautiful Sage concert hall in Gateshead, Newcastle for the first ever BBC Proms residency in the North East of England. Running parallel to the London Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, this weekend residency presented an exciting mix of performances previously developed for the London edition and new content premiered at the new Proms venue.
My gig was one stop on the incredibly successful tour of the Children’s BBC orchestral show, Ocean Adventure, premiered at the 2022 Proms and streamed on the BBC iPlayer by countless kids ever since. I love this show and this performance was one of the most fun versions we’ve done so far with my co-presenters Rory Crawford, Chantelle Lindsay, writer/director Angela Young and the terrific Royal Northern Sinfonia whipping a sold-out auditorium of CBBC superfans into a joyful oceanic spray. Absolutely loved it.
What a great conclusion to an amazing season!
